Know before you go

If you’re planning a trip to Myanmar, it’s important to know the travel requirements before you go. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you prepare for your journey. Most foreign passport holders need a tourist or business eVisa to enter Myanmar. Myanmar has introduced an ‘e-visas’ system through which applications can be submitted and approved online in advance of travel. There are 2 different types of eVisa.

Tourist eVisa

This eVisa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows a single entry for a stay of up to 28 days. It allows you to have a single entry to the country for tourism purposes.

The allowed entry points for eVisa holders are: 

  1. Yangon International Airport

  2. Mandalay International Airport

  3. Nay Pyi Taw International Airport

  4. Tachileik Land Border Checkpoint

  5. Kawthaung Land Border Checkpoint

The processing time for an e-Visa application is approximately three working days.

Tourist eVisa requeriments
  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of your planned departure from Myanmar.
  • Color photo: You must upload a recent color photo that is 4.6 cm x 3.8 cm in size. The photo must be taken within the last 3 months.
  • Passport bio-data page: You must upload a copy of the page in your passport that contains your personal information, such as your name, date of birth, and passport number.
  • Proof of return ticket: You must attach a copy of your return ticket to your visa application.
  • Proof of hotel booking: You must attach a copy of your hotel booking confirmation to your visa application.
Visa-Exempt Countries

The following countries do not require a visa for tourist visits if entering and departing from Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw International Airports:

14 days exemption: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines & Thailand.

30 days exemption: Vietnam.

Business eVisa

This eVisa is valid for 90 days from the issued date. It allows you to stay up to 70 days from the date of arrival in Myanmar. It allows you to have a single entry to the country for business purposes. The allowed entry points to Business eVisa holder are same points than Tourist eVisa. It also takes approximately three working days.

Business eVisa requeriments

For being elegible for the Business eVisa you will need to meet same requirements than for the Tourist eVisa plus

  • Letter of Invitation to you from a registered company.

  • Company Registration of inviting company.

  • Company Extract of inviting company.

  • The following Myanmar Registered Foreign Chamber of Commerce Association’s recommendation or invitation letter are eligible

    • Thai Business Association of Myanmar

    • French – Myanmar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FMCCI)

    • European Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (Euro Cham Myanmar)

    • Malaysian Business Chamber

    • British Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar

eVisa eligibility

All passport holders from the following countries are eligible to apply for an electronic tourist visa, in addition, countries marked with an * will also be eligible to apply for a Business eVisa:

COVID-19 Requirements

To ensure the safety of all visitors, the Ministry of Health of Myanmar requires that travelers have received full vaccination with the vaccines approved by them, at least 14 days prior to their arrival in Myanmar. It is mandatory to provide a valid Vaccine Certificate as part of the application process. This measure is in place to safeguard the well-being of everyone and maintain a secure travel environment in Myanmar.

If travellers are not fully vaccinated , it is mandatory for entering Myanmar to present laboratory evidence in the form of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test. The test must be conducted within 72 hours prior to arrival and should be presented at the origin airport to the airlines. Additionally, upon arrival in Myanmar, the negative test result must be presented at the airport and entry/exit gates.
